Try imagining a dance scene from a Jane Austin film. Now replace the music with some lively Celtic tune, maybe more like the dance scenes in Titanic. Throw in a little bit of stylish footwork. Now imagine everyone having fun, welcoming newcomers, and not trying to impress anyone. That's a pretty good image of our Monday nights.
If you'd like to see a really good dance club in action, here's a link:
Our evenings are led by two experienced, certified teachers of Scottish country dance. If you are newer to all this, we'll pair you with an experienced dancer to guide you through the evening. We walk through each dance, led by the instructors, until all of the dancers feel ready to begin dancing.
It's a low-pressure and inclusive atmosphere. Our meeting space, the Oshtemo Grange Hall, is spacious and well-lighted, with a good wooden dance floor.
Most of us have an inexpensive pair of dance shoes, but it's fine to wear a comfortable pair of light-weight, soft, flexible shoes--running shoes come to mind. Dress is informal and comfortable, and on the first Monday of the month we have "kilt night" at which you're welcome to dress up a bit, whether you have a kilt or not.
